If you work with or are becoming interested in trading on the stock market online, then chances are that you are going to come across the .ex4 file extension during your exploration of the different tools available to you in the digital realm. These files are unambiguously and inexorably linked to the Metatrader software; .ex4 files, which are compiled previously from within Metatrader, are most often used specifically as what are referred to as "expert advisors," or "EAs." Upon further investigation, you will find that there are actually three different types of .ex4 files (though two of them are generally less commonly used by the average trader), and how you access or use them is dependent on what type they are. Again, their placement is self explanatory, with their own similarly titled directories that they are to be placed in.

A common mistake for novice users of the Metatrader software unfolds as follows; A new user of this trading program has decided that they especially like an expert advisor file that has been compiled been a user belonging to the online trading support community, and they download the .ex4 to their desktop. With Metatrader either running or closed, the user tries to open or execute the file from his desktop. Windows does not recognize the file, and even when manually pointing the file association function to the executable of the Metatrader program, it doesn't work and the user doesn't achieve his goal. Since this is how most files are commonly opened, it is a logical assumption for an individual to make. A quick look at the software documentation, though, will tell you everything you need to know. Just remember to put them in the Metatrader program directory rather than trying to open them directly and you shouldn't have any problems. If you are following all these rules and still receive an error about the file not being recognized or something similar, then you are likely in possession of a corrupted file that cannot be repaired. Try re-downloading the file once or twice after checking your internet connection for stability. If this doesn't work, the file is likely corrupted at its source on the server you're trying to download it from. If using another website doesn't solve the problem, then your last resort is to try re-instaling the software.
